Hermiston School District Superintendent Tricia Mooney will promote from within the administrative ranks to fill the role of Sunset Elementary School principal, due to the expected departure of the current principal.
Sunset Elementary School Principal Dr. Christie Petersen notified the district that she is planning to relocate back to the Hillsboro area, citing personal reasons. In response to her move, Superintendent Mooney expressed thanks to Dr. Petersen for her service and wished her the best in her future endeavors.
To fill the principal post of the largest elementary school in the district, Superintendent Mooney called on Rocky Heights Elementary School Principal Jerad Farley. RHES Dean of Students Becky Bacon will join Mr. Farley at SES.
To backfill Farley’s post, current Armand Larive Middle School assistant principal and former Rocky Heights teacher, Ms. Stefani Wyant will be promoted to RH principal, and Mr. Anthony Voelker, the current SES dean of students, will partner with Wyant at RH.
“An administrator’s vacancy usually leaves a big void, but thankfully, Hermiston School District is blessed with a strong administrative team,” said Superintendent Mooney. “I was able to look at the district’s leadership strengths and current needs to fill posts internally.”
The vacant assistant principal position will also be filled with a current staff member; Hermiston High School Science Teacher Juan Rodriguez will be promoted to ALMS AP.
Staff changes will take effect on July 1.

Superintendente Mooney anuncia cambios administrativos
La Superintendente del Distrito Escolar de Hermiston Tricia Mooney promoverá dentro de los rangos administrativos para llenar el puesto del Director de la Escuela Primaria Sunset (siglas en inglés SES), debido a la salida esperada de la directora actual.
La Directora de la Escuela Primaria Sunset, la Dra. Christie Petersen le notificó al distrito que ella está planeando mudarse de regreso al área de Hillsboro, citando razones personales. En respuesta a su mudanza, la Superintendente Mooney expresó su gratitud hacia la Dra. Petersen por su servicio y le deseó lo mejor en sus futuros emprendimientos.
Para llenar el puesto de director en una de las escuelas más grandes en el distrito, la Superintendente Mooney eligió al Director de la Escuela Primaria Rocky Heights Jerad Farley. La Rectora de Estudiantes de RHES Becky Bacon se unirá al Sr. Farley en SES.
Para llenar el puesto de Farley, la actual subdirectora de la Escuela Secundaria Armand Larive y anteriormente maestra en Rocky Heights, la Sra. Stefani Wyant será promovida para convertirse en la directora de RH, y el Sr. Anthony Voelker, el rector de estudiantes de SES, será su aliado en RH.
“Usualmente cuando un administrador deja su puesto vacante, se siente un vacío, pero felizmente, el Distrito Escolar de Hermiston es bendecido con un equipo administrativo sólido,” dijo la Superintendente Mooney. “Pude ver las fortalezas de los líderes y mirar nuestras necesidades actuales para poder cubrir los puestos internamente.
El puesto vacante de subdirector también se cubrirá con un miembro del personal; el Maestro de Ciencias Naturales de la Preparatoria de Hermiston será promovido a subdirector de ALMS.
Los cambios en el personal serán efectivos el 1 de julio.
